Dear Dr. Murley:

SIGNIFICANT CONSTRUCTION DEFICIENCY DEFECTS IN LUBE OIL PUMP DISCHARGE NOZZLES HOPE CREEK GENERATING STATION On April 25, 1984, a verbal report was made to Region I, Office of Inspection and Enforcement representative, Mr. E. C.

McCabe, advising of a potentially significant construction deficiency regarding cracked bosses on our Diesel Generator lube oil pump discharge nozzles. On May 25, July 18 and August 7, 1984, interim reports were submitted to your office.

The following information, in conjunction with our July 18th report, constitutes our final report in accordance with 10CFR50.55(e).

On August 6, 1984, a Colt Industries representative examined the condition of our Diesel Generator lube oil pump discharge nozzles and recommended that the face of the bosses be machined down 0.060 inch to determine the extent of the surface indi-cations. This was done under the supervicion of a represent-ative from Colt Industries. and resulted in the removal of all surface indications as confirmed by nondestructive examination (dye-penetrant) .

Closure of Nonconformance Report No. 3926 is pending receipt and installation of the modified adapters from Colt Industries.

This activity is scheduled for completion by October 26, 1984.
