Dear Mr. O'Reilly:
On September 7, 1984, Mr. N. J. Chiangi notified the NRC (Mr. A. Hardin) of a potentially reportable item per the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e) and 10CFR, Part 21.
The NRC was informed that inadequate clearances at tne sides of Siemens-Allis 6.9 kV circuit breakers and switchgear cubicles had resulted in problems such as bent terminal lugs and chafed wiring.
CP&L is currently awaiting a response from Siemens-Allis on their review and recommendation for corrective action. We will complete our evaluation of this item upon receipt and review of Siemens-Allis' response.
It is projected that a report on the reportability of this item will be issued by November 30. 1984.
