Structural Weiding

[

SUPPLIED BY:

Westinghouse Electric Corporation, Orville, Ohio s

NATURE OF DEFICIENCY:

The subject Unit 1 equipment has been received at the

site, r

During a CP&L site QA inspection of the equipment, weld deficiencies were noted when compared to the vendor's welding criteria.

DATE PROBLEM OCCUR RED :

The problem was noted by CP&L site OA inspection on S ep tembe r 30, 1982.

DATE PPOBLEM R EPORTED:

October 14, 1982, CP&L (N. J. Chiangi) notified the NRC (Mr. C. Hehl) that this item was potentially reportable under 10CFR50.55(e).

1 SCOPE OF h

PROBLEM:

The deficiency involves all sections (A, P, C, D) of the MCB.

The board is fabricated in sections only due to f

physical limitations of handling and shipping. When installed, it becomes a single unit.

$1 SAFETY IMPLICATIONS:

Seismic qualification of the MCB is required to assure structural integrity during a seismic event.

Safety-

?-

reinted components are located in the board; thus, a

structural failure of the board would jeopardize operation p

of the safety-rela ted equipment.
