POTENTIAL CONSTRUCTION DEFICIENCY DEFECTS IN LUBE OIL PUMP DISCHARGE NOZZLES HOPE CREEK GENERATING STATION On April 25, 1984, a verbal report was made to Region I, Office of Inspection and Enforcement rerresentative, Mr. E. C.

iMcCabe, advising of a potentia]' ricant construction deficiency regarding cracked ' our diesel generator lube oil pump discharge no7- _.e following interim report is provided in ac with 10CFR50.55 (e) .

Colt Industries submittet art 21 Report to Region III concerning a broken boss on a lube oil pump discharge nozzle discovered during factory testing of a diesel generator set. -

A second lube oil pump was examined and the boss area was found to be cracked. Colt reported that the noted conditions significantly reduce the sealing area between the pump and the threaded adapter. .4 Our Architect / Engineer and Constructor, Bechtel, inspected the identical components on our diesel generator setc and.,

< found cracks and casting discrepancies at the boss connections.

Bechtel has issued Nonconformance Report No. 3826 to document and control the hardware.
