United States Atomic Energy Coctuission Washington, D. C.

20545, Dear Mr. Braunert ne follewing infomation concerning t', s contamination of the facility, the disponition of the remainin;; inventory of reactor componente, and the prescoce of records pursuant to th6 R-72 Licenso is offered to sup-N piment and updato the letter of March 5,1971, to cocrnission purauunt to Docket No. 50-310.

Under Eyproduct Licenso 37-12307-02, the AnPC is divided into tvo areas with respect to contamination; i.e. normally cloon avons whero contam-ination 1cvela are maintained well bolcv 500 dpa/100 cm2 remvcbic beta and contaminated areas whero the limito are 100 dpm/100 cm2 alpha, 5,000 cpci/60 cm2 direct removab'ie ablo beta, and 5 mrad at 2.5 cm direct (fixed) alpha, 5,000 dpm/100 cm2 remov-(fixed) beta. Strontium-90 and cobalt-60 constitute virtually all of the contaminstion found in contam-inated areas.

The Strontium-90 activity is residual in the duct-vork of the hot cello and in the low-level portion of the liquid vaste system f rom the operations of the Martin->brietta Company.

No evidence of mixed fission product contamination nor alpha contamination has been found.

Thirty-five reactor activated assemblica vere shipped to 1:entucky for burial by Nuclear Engineering Company, Incorporated on Fbrch 19, 1971.

Two safety shims encased in concrete within a 55 sallon drum were retained and stored due to an external radiation lovel in excess of 200 mPJhr.

This 55 gallon drum vill be edditionally shioided and shipped at a later date.

No records have been found which relato either radiation / contamination icvels or personnel expocures during Curtiss-Wri ht neactor OperationC.

t The recordo of radiation / contamination procent in facility at the time of transfer to UUEC are the earliest records which remain.

If additional information 18 desired, please feel free to contact either tc riter or Mr. Reitler at (814) 263-4871 and (412) 842-0111, respec-Very truly yours.
