On~ December 21, 1983, Mr. K. V. Hate' notified the'NRC (Mr. A. Hardin) of a potentially reportable item per the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e) and 10CFR, Part 21. The NRC was informed that Ruskin Manufacturing Company supplied actuators failed to meet the
- functior.al test requirements of the G. H. Bettis Company.
On January 18,1984, we stated in our !etter NRC-169 that an investigation was underway to determine'if Ruskin specified operators that were sufficiently oversized to overcome the additional friction (due to swoUen seals); if so, no corrective action may be reqmeed.
Otherwise, either the seals or the operators will have to be replaced.' Based on the
. expectation of a revised torque chart from G. H. Bettis by February 1,1984 and Ruskin's subsequent analysis, we stated we would require until February 20,1984 to submit a report
.on this item.
This letter is to inform' you that it is now expected that G. H. Bettis will respond to
, lRuskin by February 17, 1984 and Ruskin should respond' to CP&L by March 2,1984.
- Therefore, we 'will require until March 23, 1984 to submit a report on the reportability of this item.
