Dear Mr. O'RelU.y:
On January 20, 1984, Mr. K. V. Hate' notified the NRC (Mr. A. Hardin) of a potentially reportable item per the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e) and 10CFR, Part 21. The NRC was informed that seismic IIVAC ductwork fabricated by Pullman Construction Industries, Inc.
does not meet design specifications. Son.e of the fabrication occurred prior to CP&L approval of the '.pplicable portion of Pullman's Duct Construction Manual. The ductwork was accepted by CP&L.
Preliminary investigations of the potential generie situation between PCI and Ebasco indicate that differences impacting seismic qualification of ductwork may exist between Ebasco design documents and PCI fabrication documents. The significance of these discrepancies is currently being evaluated.
In order to complete our evaluation, we will require until March 20, 1984 for submitting a report on the reportability of this item.
