Re:
Steampipe explosion near Hartsville at C.
P. & L's nuclear plant in April, 1970
Dear Senator Thurmond:
First I want to say that I appreciate your note about our mutual and most capabic friend Sol Blatt, Jr.
I represent a Mr. Ralph Newton who sustained about a fifty (50%) percent loss of hearing as a result of a steampipe explosion at the nuclear plant here in Hartsville in April, 1970.
The Atomic Energy Commission made a thorough, detailed and extensive investigation into the cause of this explosion.
Rumor has it, that the explosion resulted from a defective design of the steampipe.
The injured employee,- Ralph Newton, is covered under workmen's compensation but to a limited degree as you know.
We feel his common law action for a defective design would better compensate him for his loss of hearing which is continuing to increase.
I am wondering if there is any way I may have_ access,to,the.. report of the At,omi,c, Energy,. Commission.s I am sure that there should be
's'ome method whereby this information would be made available to i
the public.
Thanking you in advance, I am Yours very truly, SALE Y, SALEEBY & HERRING, P.. A.
