I i

In our letter of July 6,1971, to Dr. Peter A. Morris we stated that we would perform a liquid penetrant inspection of the l

pressurizer safety valve nozzles during our first refueling outage.

l This inspection was to check for possible sensitization of the type i

316 stainless steel nozzle due to the hard surfacing operation during manufacture. Visual and liquid penetrant inspections were performed

{

during our recent first refueling outage. No indication of sensitization was found, and the valves were returned to service. Normal inservice i

inspection vill continue to be performed on these valves in accordance I

with ASME-Section XI, Inservice Inspection of Nuclear Reactor Coolant Systems.

Very truly yours,
