Dear Mr. Keppler:
The purpose of this letter is to provide you with notification of an Abnormal Occurrence as required by Technical Specification 6.6.B.I.a within 24 hours2.777778e-4 days <br />0.00667 hours <br />3.968254e-5 weeks <br />9.132e-6 months <br /> of the occurrence.
On May 5, 1975, with Unit I m.3 rating at 393 MWe, while performing the RCIC Monthly Onerab3lity %r"e!!!._
- Tc ;t, ! t..a Ji auvei cJ Lina t Line hLit con-densate pump motor drew excessive amperage. At 5:37 p.m.,
the RCIC conden-sate pump was taken out of service for inspection.
This inspection revealed that the pump motor was defective.
Safety implications are minimal since the HPCI Monthly Operability Surveillance Test had been run successfully earlier in the day.
Subsequently, the HPCI sys-tem was found to be Inoperable and a reactor shutdown was initiated.
This occurrence was discussed by telephone with Mr. C. Felerabend of your office on itay 8, 1975.
Further information will be provided by Abnormal Occurrence Report A0 50-254/75-12 which will be submitted within 10 days of the date of this occurrence.
