Dear Senatoi' Kennedy:
I've been telephoning people locally and writing madly since Sunday to let people know about the radioactive cloud which passed slowly over the Syracuse, New York area Saturday night and early The enclosed letter will explain it all. 1ast Sunday. The only radioactive source I can connect it with was the leak from Quad Cities nuclear power plant in Illinois reputed to be a minor leak occurring Monday morning June 10. My reckoning is that there was an earlier unreported bad accident last Thursday approximately. If the radioactive cloud (if that is really what it was) passed over us then it should be coming across the United States again in a very few days, and someone should be tracking it and notifying the public. I strongly favor laws requiring all radio and television stations ~ to have continuous day and ni ht radiation monitoring, monitors with 6 auditory alarms, and the requirement to broadcast the level of radioactivity when it igoes above normal background levels. I'd also like t'o see nuclear plants abandoned altogether. s 6w^ J_ As t l

Dear Mr. Cachman:
_.a I wan.cpeakinc with the Syracuse DEC thic norning (Ec. Ca~cl Miccuirc?) and proniced to cond you the details of our conycrcation. I've cent a y nearly duplicL.to letter to Mr. Sherwood Davic in the Bur. of 2nd. Eccith. Sum I own a anall Victorcen Goicer counter nodel 882A called a "Cattler". 01cw. It is nade by the Victorcen Instrument Division of V ZI,10101 Uocdland Ave., C1cycland, Ohio 44104. I've ouned it cince lact ?cbrucuy 1974. On nuncrous occaccions I've turned it on for five or ten ninutoc to last noncure the background radiation in canna rays from my hone. In all thic tino I have heard only one " chirp", indicating only one canna ray. Th'a This is why I've considered it to be quite ceriouc to have cuddenly

Chore was about one chirp, or one canna ray, cvory five to 1:n 9 aa acconds at first. Af ter about twenty ninutec the count had dccrcaced to 3 that about one canna ray every forty acconde. In about an hour nnd a half the chirpc (sanna rays) had conced altbccther both incido'and outcido proxy. the houac. Unfortunately, I did not turn on the Geiser counter Saturday and co do M co not know how long the radiating cloud was hanging overhead. 3r7 al I would be grateful if you could tell no who I nicht tSophonc day or Otiv', 'nicht if I should got a cinilar large count in the futuro, to verify it and perhaps locato its cource. y~." Since there are two large dairy faruc within two miles or co of uc I thoudit that you nicht like tc cond a tcan out to acacure the aucunt of strontius or iodinc etc. which nay have fallen from the cloud. And, you nicht also want to check out various cou cco for the radiation west of horc, nuclear power planto etc.
