Dear Mr. Keppler:
The purpose of this letter is to provide you with notification of en Abnormal Occurrence as required by Technical Specification 6.6.B.l.a within 24 hours2.777778e-4 days <br />0.00667 hours <br />3.968254e-5 weeks <br />9.132e-6 months <br /> of the occurrence.
On July 22, 1974 with Unit 1 operating at 163 MNE during the startup test program following the cycle one refueling outnae, "apa"a" "P.^ r tripping CCC".r:Ot

to turn on the Unit 1 diesel generator cooling water pump for the purpose of providing room cooling during the HPCI operability test.
The diesel generator was therefore declared inoperable.
Surveillance required by Technical Specification 4.9.E.1 was performed.
Reactor shutdown commenced as scheduled as part of the startup test program.
Investigation revealed a failed pump motor, which is being replaced.
This occurrence was discussed by telephone with Mr. Feierabend of your office on July 23, 1974.
Further information will be providecf by Abnormal Occurrence Report AO S0-254/74-24 which will be submitted within 10 days of the date of this occurrence.
