15.4.11 Hydraulic Shock Suppressors i

l l

l Applicability:

l Applies to hydraulic snubbers installed on safety related piping systems.

Objective:

To provide reasonable assurance that safety related hydraulic snubbers will function satisfactorily when needed.

Specifications:

Interim Snubber Seals Whenever the reactor is shutdown for 24 hours2.777778e-4 days <br />0.00667 hours <br />3.968254e-5 weeks <br />9.132e-6 months <br /> or longer and those snubbers which do not contain seal material of demonstrated compatibility with the hydraulic fluid and operating environment have not been inspected for 30 days, an inspection shall be performed.

In no event shall the interval between inspections exceed 120 days. Any defective units found during an inspection shall be repaired before returning to power operation.

If unavailability of materials dictates the use of millabic gum seals, the reinspection interval shall not exceed 30 days until compatibic seal material is installed, which should be accomplished at the earliest practical time. The results of all inspections and any repairs or corrective actions taken shall be reported to the Directorate of Licensing.

l Permanent Snubber Seals Snubbers equipped with seal material of demonstrated compatibility with the hydraulic fluid and operating environment shall be inspected during each refueling outage. Repairs or corrective actions shall be reported to the Directorate of Licensing.

Interim Snubber Seals Atomic Energy Commission requirement.

l Permanent Snubber Seals Seal manufacturers have demonstrated that the material is compatible with' the hydraulic fluid and the operating environment for a considerably longer period of time.
