Mr. George W. Knighton, Chief Licensing Branch 3 Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation
SUBJECT:
Beaver Valley Power Station - Unit No. 2 Docket No. 50-412 Detailed Control Room Design Review i
Centlemen:
On August 8,
19 83, DLC submitted the Program Plan Repo rt fo r the Detailed Control Room Design Review (DCRDR).
Cont ained in this report was a section entitled " Management and Staf fing."
This section outlined the struc-ture of the DCRDR team and the minimum qualifications fo r the team members.
The qualifications of the Ins trument at ion and Control (I&C) Engineer and the Reactor Operator (RO) appoint ed to the team are equivalent to those contained in this Program Plan.
The following discusses the qualifica t ions of these individuals for NRC review.
The Program Plan requires the RO to have, as a minimum, a reac to r 's license or an SRO certification.
Mr. R. G. Orendi, who will be serving as the RO on the team, had a Nuclear Shif t Reactor Engineer's certification (equiva-lent of an SRO cert ification) at the Shippingport Atomic Power Station from 1974 to 1980 with DLC.
Mr. Orendi is presently working at Wes tinghouse Elec-tric Corp. and no longer maintains this certification. DLC feels that with the support that will be provided by BVSP Units 1 and 2 licensed operating staf f, Mr. Orendi meets the int ent of the program plan qualifications.
Mr.
Or endi's resume is attached.
The minimum qualifications ' for the I&C Engineer on the core tean are B.S. in engineering and five years of I&C engineering experience (with at least two years in the nuclear design. area).
Mr. W. J. Catullo, Jr., of Wes tinghouse
-Electric Corporation has be en appoint ed to fulfill the obliga t ions of this individual on the core team.
Mr. Catullo has a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and has four years of I&C engineering experience all of which have been in the nuclear design area. - Mr. Catullo has established an impressive experience base in the area of Westinghouse PWR control board design and implementation as well as a detailed understanding of-control room design reviews. DIE recognizes Mr.
Catullo's leadership and job knowledge end feels his specific. experiences and educat ion denot ed in his attached res ume demons trate that Mr. Catullo has equivalent qualifications and meets the intent of the program plan.
