Dear Mr. Denton:
In letters to you dated March 31, 1983 and April 15, 1983, South Carolina Electric and Gas Company (SCE&G) described the status of its Technical Support Center (TSC) Computer System.
This system provides displays in the Control Room for the Safety Parameter Display System (SPDS) and provides data displays in the TSC and Emergency Operations Facility (EOF).
As outlined in our earlier letters the TSC Computer System has been designed, installed and is functional, but problems with the system software have yet to be resolved by the vendor, Westinghouse Electric Corporation.
These software problems limit performance in dynamic situations and affect overall reliability of the system.
Based on the results of recent performance tests and discussions with the vendor it is now apparent that significant modification of the system software will be required to resolve the problems.
We are actively pursuing resolution of these limitations with the vendor.
Based on the extent of the modifications that we believe will be necessary to provide a final resolution to these problems, we expect to have the system fully operational no later than December 1985.
