UNITS 1 AND 2 A. PURPOSE: The purpose of this report is to satisfy the reporting requirements as established in 10 CFR 55.45(b)(5)(ii) and (b)(5)(vi). This report includes information on the current status of the simulator facility, on the performance testing which has been completed during the previous four years, and on the subsequent four year test plan.

B. CURRENT SIMULATOR STATUS: As referenced in Section 12 of the South Texas Project simulator certification report submitted to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission on March 1,1991, the simulator facility is undergoing a major upgrade. The upgrade includes all new state-of-the-art simulation software, new simulation computers, new interface hardware between the computers and the existing control panels, and additional back panels and control room printers. The upgrade software was tested at the vendor's facility during the last half of 1994 and installation on site was started in December 1994.

i Factory acceptance testing including malfunction testing, steady state testing, normal operations and the transient tests required by ANSI /ANS-3.5-1985 has been completed. Individuals from South Texas Pmject's plant operations, training and engineering organizations were involved in -

the testing program.

The site acceptance test for the simulator facility upgrade will start in March with completion ,

scheduled for July 1995. Th( site acceptance test will include 100% malfunction testing and all  !

other tests required by ANSI /ANS-3.5-1985. Plant operations, training and engineering personnel will be involved in the site acceptance test program as well.

The subsequent four year test schedule is described in Section D. .

C. PREVIOUS FOUR YEAR TEST RESULTS: The 1991 through 1993 performance test schedule was completed as outlined in the original certification report. The scheduled .

performance testing for 1994 was conducted in conjunction with factory acceptance testing of the upgraded software modules. The testing included rdi ANSI /ANS-3.5-1985 requirements. It is anticipated that all documented deficiencies will be corrected prior to the completion of the site acceptance test of the simulator facility upgrade.

ST-HL-AE-5008 D. SUBSEQUENT FOUR YEAR TEST SCHEDULE (1995 THROUGH 1998):

A comprehensive simulator performance test will be conducted following integration of the new hardware and software modules with the existing control panels. The 1995 Simulator Performance Test / Site Acceptance Test is scheduled to begin in late March 1995 and to be completed in July 1995. During this period, the remaining deficiencies from the list in the  :

original certification package will be corrected and tested. Section E lists these deficiencies.

Following completion of the 1995 performance testing, a report of the test results will be provided to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to close the initial cenification commitment.  ;

During 1995, the computer real time, steady state, transient, surveillance and 100% of the malfunction tests will be performed. During 1996 through 1998, this same test schedule will be performed except that only 25% of the malfunction tests will be performed during each of these years. Several new malfunctions have been acquired and will be tested during this four year test program. This test schedule will ensure that 100% of all malfunctions are tested and all other testing requirements of ANSI /ANS-3.5-1985 are satisfied at the conclusion of the test period.

The detailed 1995 through 1998 malfunction test schedule is included as Addendum 1 to this report.

i E. DISCREPANCY STATUS: A total of 528 simulator discrepancies have been cleared from  !

the training load over the previous four years. The following is a list of remaining discrepancies I from the listing in Addendum 1 of the original certification package. All other discrepancies  !

listed in this addendum have been tested and cleared as of December 1994. It is anticipated that i the remaining simulator discrepancies will be corrected at the completion of the simulator upgrade project.
