Dear Mr. O'Reilly:
On August 18, 1983, Mr. N. J. Chiangi notified the NRC (Mr. R. Butcher) of a potentially reportable item per the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e) and 10CFR, Part 21.
The NRC was informed that receipt inspection of the diesel generator rotor, stator and AC box (IA-SA and IB-SB) revealed dimensional, electrical and specification deficiencies.
CP&L is in the process of completing the evaluation of this item. The majority of the information needed to finalize our evaluation has ben appraised.
We are presently awaiting additional input from the manufacturer of the generator on several concerns. Once this information is received, we will be able to complete our evaluation. For this reason, we will require until October 17, 1983 for submitting a report on the reportability of this item.
