SUMMARY

OF OPERATING EXPERIENCE Virgil C. Summer Nuclear Station, Unit No. 1, remained shut down until December 14, 1983, for completion of a Steam Generator Tube Eddy Current examination. The results were satisfactory with no tubes being plugged.

At 0009 hours1.041667e-4 days
0.0025 hours
1.488095e-5 weeks
3.4245e-6 months
and again at 0832 hours0.00963 days
0.231 hours
0.00138 weeks
3.16576e-4 months
on December 15, 1983, the turbine tripped due to Hi-Hi level indication on feedwater heater SA. The problem was traced to the level instrumentation giving false readings.

On December 16, 1983, at 0600 hours0.00694 days
0.167 hours
9.920635e-4 weeks
2.283e-4 months
, the turbine tripped from thrust bearing wear detection. The trip setpoint had previously been set for turbine power operating conditions, which was not a proper setpoint.for the turbine at restart conditions. This condition resulted in the turbine trip during

-restart operations. Subsequently, the trip setpoint was properly established and set. Following this trip, the plant was cooled down for valve repacking in the primary system.

On December 31, 1983, the plant was operating at 100% power.
