g NIAGARA M0llAWK POWER CORPORATION NINE MILE POINT NUCLEAR STATION UNIT #1 NARRATIVE OF OPERATING EXPERIENCE June 1983 The station operated during the month of June with a monthly availability factor of 85.8% and a net design electrical rating capacity factor of 70.8%.
Availability /
capacity factor losses were due to the following:
The unit continued in shutdown from March 19, 1982 for recirc piping replacement.
On June 2 reactor start up commenced, and post-outage surveillance testing was performed. During start up an IRM high flux scram occurred. After post scram analysis, reactor start up began again on June 4, and the turbine / generator placed on line. Electromatic number 121 failed to operate during testing and the plant was shutdown to investigate. Reactor start up commenced again on June 5 and the turbine / generator was placed on line. After turbine trip testing the generator was placed on line and remained in service throughout the remainder of the month.

Title:
Duplicate Containment Air Monitor This modification consisted of installing a new monitoring unit with piping and valving to also allow an alternate unit to be substituted during maintenance or repairs.
Mod #83-30; M.0. #3503
Title:
Replacement of Turbine Building Closed Loop Cooling Heat Exchanger This modification consisted of installing a new Turbine Building Closed Loop Cooling Heat Exchanger.
It is believed the heat exchanger tubes incurred damage due to flow induced vibration. The replacement heat exchanger was designed to essentially the same original specifications with less susceptibility to vibratory effects. This should therefore improve system reliability and equipment lifetime.
