Dear Mr. O'Reilly:
On September 3, 1982, Mr. L. E. Jones notified the NRC (Mr. A. Hardin) of a potentially reportable item, per the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e). Thi concerned the use of ASTM-A307 bolts in bolted connections in the conta ment No. 1 recirculating sump cover structural steel in lieu of the ASTM-A32 bolts 7 "2

w This item has been referred to our architect / engineers, Ebasco Services, for? o evaluation and is still being evaluated. We expect the evaluation tode

complete by mid October, 1982. Since the bolts used throughout the R3tform"p were incorrect, the entire platform must be evaluated using the design and M e seismic loading, considering the lower strength bolts. To date, all polts)l2 have been replaced with ASTM-A325 bolts and reinspected.
As soon as the evaluation is complete, we will advise you immediately of the status of reportability.
