Docket Nos. 50-454 and 50-455 Gentlemen:

The testimony of Dr. Lawrence Conway was filed on February 15, 1983, with my letter of that date. Time did not permit the incorporation of several corrections to that testimony. I am hereby submitting the following errata:

1. In 0.5., delete the word "that" as superfluous.

2. Revise the last two lines of A.6. on page 5 to read: "thereby minimizing the build-up of radioactive products within the primary side of the Byron steam (MO2180387 830216 PDR ADOCK 05000454 T PDR TS O3

generators". This language supersedes the words "thereby preventing the build-up of radioactive products within the Byron steam generators."

3. In line 5 of the first paragraph of A.6. on page 6, delete the words "a major" and insert the word "an".

4. In line 8 of the last paragraph in A.6. on page 6, delete the words " construction or".

5. In A.7., correct the first word to read "Austenitic".

6. In the penultimate line of the last paragraph of A.7. on page 7, insert the word " potential" after the wnrdo "the Byron steam generators to these levels, the". This sentence should now read "By limiting the amount of CO-59 present in the stainless steel and Inconel used in the Byron steam generators to these levels, the potential occupational exposure from CO-60 can be minimized."

7. Rewrite the first 11 lines on page 8 to read:

In the Byron steam generators, a single central drain has been installed [ located] at the lowest level of the channel head bowl to facilitate the removal of the [any trapped] radioactive water remaining in both the hot and cold leg sides of the divider plate. Without this provision, maintenance workers would have to enter the radioactive channel head to mop-up or dry this trapped water. Removal of this source of potential radioactivity minimizes occupational exposure to workers by largely elimina-ting the need to perform thic manual mop-up opera-tion.

The underscoring indicates additions, the brackets indicate deletions.

- 8. In A.12., delete the words "the very bent design features" and insert the words "the state-of-the-art design features".

Consistent with the Licensing Board's Order of January 14, 1983, counsel intends to serve a corrected version

of Dr. Conway's testimony that will incorporate the foregoing corrections. The corrected version will be introduced into evidence at the upcoming hearings.
