Atlanta, Georgia 30303 CAROLINA POWER & LIGHT COMPANY SHEARON HARRIS NUCLEAR POWER PLANT 1986 900,000 KW - UNITS 1 & 2 WELDING DEFICIENCIES IN THE MAIN STEAM /FEEDWATER SUPPORT FRAMES, ITEM 121
Dear Mr. O'Reilly:
On March 18, 1983, Mr. N. J. Chiangi notified the NRC (Mr. A. Hardin) of a potentially reportable item per the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e) and 10CFR, Part 21.
Mr. Hardin was informed that two Bergen-Paterson Main Steam / Feed-water Support Frames received at the site potentially have weld deficiencies similar to those found in another frame fabricated by the same sub-vendor.
These frames are currently being inspected at the site to assure that similar deficiencies are not present. This evaluation is not expected to be complete until June 1, 1983. For this reason, we request an extension until June 17, 1983 for submitting a report on the reportability of this item.
Thank you for your consideration in this matter.
Yours very truly, g
