The Company herewith transmits 300 copies of Amendment No. 5 to its Environmental Report for the Brunswick Steam Electric Plant Units 1 and 2. This submittal contains updated information which re-flects additional radioactive waste treatment systems which have been f,) designed and incorporated into the plant since the submittal of the original Environmental Report in November, 1971. The Amendment is in the form of page changes to the Environmental Report and an instruction page is included for inserting the Amendment.

Copies of Amendment No. 5 to the Environmental Report this date have been forwarded to Mr. W. A. Kopp, Jr., Chairman, Brunswick County Board of Commissioners. An original and 30 copies of the Certificate of Service of the Amendment upon Mr. Kopp also accompany this letter.

This Amendment designated as Amendment No. 5 to the Environmental Report transmits updated information in support of the Environmental Report of the Applicant's Brunswick Steam Electric Plant Units 1 and 2. The submittal updates information concerning the radioactive waste treatment systems and reflects the design and incorporation of additional advanced waste treatment systems.

The Amendment consists of page changes to the original Environmental Report and an enclosed instruction sheet for inserting the Amendment in the 7,.3

Each revised page bears the notation " Environmental Report, Amendment No. 5" at the bottom of the page. Vertical bars have been used in the margins of the revised pages to indicate the location of the revision on the page.

After all the revised material has been added to the Environmental Report, place the Amendment No. 5 Transmittal Letter, Amendment No. 5 Certifi-cation, and Instruction Sheet at the back of the contents of the Environmental Report.
