Virgil C. Summer Nuclear Station Docket No. 50/395 Operating License No. NPF-12 Equipment Qualification

Dear Mr.'Denton:

In a letter dated September 29, 1982, South Carolina Electric and Gas Company (SCE&G) committed to implement an equipment performance trending procedure and to make modifications to a pressure transmitter prior to exceeding 5% of full power.

This letter provides notification of completion of the commitments and additional information requested by the NRC Staff regarding the qualified life of the electric hydrogen recombiners.

A spare Reactor Coolant System (RCS) wide range pressure transmitter was modified by the manufacturer, Veritrak, and shipped to the Virgil C. Summer Nuclear Station.

Installation, testing and calibration of the modified transmitter was. completed by SCE&G on October 16, 1982.

The final link in the equipment maintenance and surveillance program was made on November 1, 1982.

On this date the equipment performance trending procedure received final approval and was officially implemented.

An analysis of the materials used in the electric hydrogen recombiners supplied by Westinghouse has been completed by SCE&G.

No materials were found'which would limit the life of the equipment.

SCE&G has established the qualified lif e as one year.

During this time the additional documentation discussed in the September 29, 1982 letter will be purchased and reviewed, and the qualified life revised.
