CEQ #20200021

Dear Ms. James:

In accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) of 1969, Section 309 of the Clean Air Act and the Council on Environmental Quality regulations implementing NEPA ( 40 CFR 1500-1508), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has reviewed the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) final Supplemental Generic Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS) for license renewal for the Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station Units 2 and 3. Peach Bottom is located 50 miles southeast of Harrisburg in Peach Bottom Township, York County, Pennsylvania. EPA submitted comments on the draft SEIS for the project in correspondence of September 23, 2019.

Thank you for considering our comments on the draft SEIS. We have no objections to the project moving forward. Due to the advanced nature of time frame being evaluated, please consider re-evaluating conditions prior to the commencement of the project. The project, which is a 20-year relicensing of Peach Bottom Units 2 and 3, will commence in 2033 and 2034, respectively. We understand that the project will continue to comply with state requirements, but as needed in facility maintenance, we suggest consideration of innovations in storrnwater management and/ or methods for reduction of entrainment. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Joy Gillespie at (21 5) 814-2793 or Ralph Spagnolo at (215) 814-2718.

Sincerely, Barbara Rudnick NEPA Program Coordinator Office of Communities, Tribes and Environmental Assessment
