'(' .L I; Narrative Summary of Operating Experiences j

' Limerick Unit 1 began the month of August at a nominal 100% of rated thermal power. On 1' August 3, reactor power was briefly reduced to 97% for a Control Rod pattem adjustment.1.ater that day,-

power was again reduced to 91.5% to perform Main Turbine control valve testing. On August 10, reactar; ~;

power was briefly reduced to 95% for a Control Rod pattom adjustment. On August 13, reactor power was :

briefly reduced 1o 98% due to high turbine back pressure. ' On August 21, a scram pliot solenoid valve on Control Rod 30-07.was found to be leaking air, causing a low scram air header pressure condition. .On :

August 22, reactor power was reduced to 72% and the Control Rod was inserted and isolated in accordance '

with Technical Specifications. Reactor power was restored later that day following a Control Rod pattom 1 adjustment.' On August 27, reactor power was briefly reduced to 97.5% due to high turbine back pressure.o i

.On August 31, reactor power was briefly reduced to 90% for a Control Rod pattom adjustment.: Limerick '

' 1,

-Unit 1 ended the month of August at a nominal 100% of rated therma! power.

Operational events that occurred tring the rnonth of August included: .

. .On August 13, the reactor water cleanlup system (RWCU) isolated due to a Division I and

, IV steam leak detection system actuation. . The isolation occurred after the regenerative ,

e heat exchariget toorn tettiperatute exceeded the trip ist point.- The rise Iri roorn temperature

resulted from increased steam leakage from the heat exchanger outlet drain valves. Room ,

temperature had reached 119 degrees Fahrenheit at the time of the isolation, but decreased '

following the isolation, allowing the isolation to be reset. The RWCU system was returned . ;

to service, but required manual isolation soon thereafter due to increasing room temperature.

A 4 hour4.62963e-5 days
0.00111 hours
6.613757e-6 weeks
1.522e-6 months
NRC notification was made.for an Engineered Safeguards Feature actuation.

Maintenance repaired the leaking outlet drain valves and the system was retumed to service on August 16. , ,

- On August 31, a one hour nothication was madt; to the NRC when it was determined that l b.

Unit 1 had been operating in an unanalyzed condition. Floor plates.which serve as a flood . !

p barrier and provide a steam rollof function in the event of a high or moderate energy line -

' break were found in a condition that rendered them inoperable.' Some floor plates had been opened and others were restricted by scaffolding, which was being erected for the refueling outage. Further investigation revealed that other flood barriers had been rendered i inoperable when penetrations through walls'were made to support construction work. .j II. CHALLENGES TO MAIN STEAM SAFETY RELIEF VALVES g

There were no challenges to the Main Steam Relief Valv'es during the month of August.
