Mr.' Warren J.. Hall' l

Nuclear Management and Resources Council:

a 1776 Eye Street, N. W., Suite 300 I

Washington, D.C.

20006-2496 1

Dear Mr.' Hall;-

1 This letter transmits' draft revisions of the new Standard Technical Specifications 1

(STS) Instrumentation Chapter (3.3) prepared by the NRC staff.. Several weeks ago the NRC: staff met with 0wners Groups and Lead-Plant representatives to-discuss 1the' q

May 24 chapter markup. During the meeting vendor-specific markups were prepared without changing previous. agreed upon positions'on generic issues.

We also reordered the Conditions and Table functions at the request of the Owners

'l Group to^ support their efforts to write the. Chapter 3.3 Bases..'The intent of

)

.our effort was to preserve the technical accuracy as agreed upon during the meetings. Some effort on behalf of the Owners Groups is recommended.in order to 1

ensure that new issues are not generated in'the-process.

Meetings are being arranged for the_ middle of ~~ July to discuss th_is; revision and to prepare a final list of open items for the..new STS Instrumentation Chapters.

These_ meetings will be held at the NRC offices at White Flint in Rockville, MD.

Sincerely, ORIGINAL SIGNED BY JOSE A. CALVO Jose A. Calvo, Chief Technical, Specifications Branch.
