SUBJECT:

REQUEST FOR ASSISTANCE - RADIO IN NON-POWER REACTOR f

CONTROL ROOM-(alt 305)

On June 20, 1989, I visited the University of Missouri (Columbia) research reactor and noticed a radio in the control room, mounted in the j

control panel (The radio was off at the time).

Region !!! is cognizant of the NRC policy statement regarding radios in control rooms of power reactors, and notes that the statement is specific to such reactors.

We are uncertain how that policy should apply to research reactors.

Although there are no irrnediate safety concerns involved with this issue, I would appreciate guidance and clarification on handling this matter.
