Docket No. 50-285 IE Inspection Report 81-16
Dear Mr. Seidle:
Modification of the Fort Calhoun Station QA Vault - Schedule Delay The referenced report cited Omaha Public Power District for a violation related to the Fort Calhoun Station Quality Assurance (QA) vault.
The District's letter dated September 4,1981, in response to this violation, stated the QA vault would be modified to meet ANSI N45.2.9-1979 criteria by February 28,19E2.
The District's letter dated February 26, 1982 reconfirmed this commitment and revised the completion schedule to June 1, 1982.
Because of additional design and construction delays, as detailed below, the District is now revising its schedule to complete the QA veult modification by July 16, 1982.
In our February U,1982 letter, the District indicated that the final design package for the QA vault modification was near completion.
During the final Plant Review Committee approval of the final design package in early March,1982, it was determined that the modification of the QA vault ceiling would be of greater scope than originally axpected.
It was determined that new decking and steel supports for the ceiling would be needed, as well as rearrangiog the vault lighting.
The more extensive ceiling modifications required all records stored in the vault to be moved. However, before the records could be moved, air condition-ing had to be added to the interim storage location.
The modifications to the interim storage area and movement of records accounts for a three week delay in this project.
The more extensive ceiling work has also added three weeks to the construction of the new vault. Additionally, once all construction is complete, a separate contractor must install 8207130265 820702 PDR ADOCK 05000285 O
