Dear Mr. O'Reilly:
On February 4, 194"., the NRC (Mr. C. Julian) was notified by Carolina Power &
Light Company (Messrs. L. E. Jones and K. V. Hate') of an item considered-potentially reportable per the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e). The NRC was informed that non-low stress impression stamps were found to have been used on-various safety-related piping systems for identification of' field weld numbers.
The intent of this letter is to inform you that Carolina Power & Light Company has not been able to complete its evaluation concerning this matter because of delays in obtaining a definition of low stress stamps and the lack of ability to measure impression radiuses. To date, training sessions have been conducted. emphasizing stamp types and correct usage, also removal of high stress stamps from the field has been' completed. Evaluation of the scope.and impact of stress calculations is continuing.
It is now anticipated that the completion of the reportability evaluation will be accomplished by July 15, 1982, at which ' time, the NRC will be informed of the results. ' Completion of corrective action and' submittal of final report,-
if this item is deemed reportable, will be accomplished by November 1, 1982.
