Dear Sir:
Subject:
Docket No. 50-206 initial Notification of LER 82-013 San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, Unit 1 This submittal provides written confirmation of a 24 hour2.777778e-4 days
0.00667 hours
3.968254e-5 weeks
9.132e-6 months
report made in accordance with Section 5.6.3.a.(1) of Appendix B to Provisional Operating License DPR-13.
On October 2, 1981, a liquid waste release was made from the Reheater Pit Sump as authorized by Liquid Radioactive Release Fermit No. 1096.
The release pathway was through the Oily Waste Sump and thus the liquid did not go through Radwaste Monitor Channel R-1218.
Sample analysis prior to the release identified the following isotopes:
Cs-134 at 3.74 X 10-7/' Ci /ml, Co-144 at t.49 X 10-6/( Ci/ml, Co-60 I.15 X 10-6
/Ci/ml,Cs-137at7.19X10-7/I Ci/mi and H-3 at 3.02 X 10-5 / Ci/ml.
A total of 10,000 gallons was released at a release rate of 150 gpm to the Circulating Water System.
The total activity calculated from this Cs-134, 1.41 X 10-5 Curies; C 5.67 X 10-5 Curles; Co-60, 4.38 X 10-5 Curles;Cs-137,2.72X10g-144, release por isotope is as follows:
Curies; and H-3, 1.14 X 10-3 Curies.
A total activity of 1.28 X 10-3 Curies was discharged under this release permit.
l The discharge of this radioactive waste to the Circulating Water System was maintained below the limits set by 10CFR20 and there was no impact on public health and safety.
App lix B Technical Speci f ication 5.6.3.a(1) requires a prompt report in 1,.at the Limiting Condition for Operation specified by Appendix A Technical Specification 4.5.0.(2) was violated by not taking mid and end point samples during the release in question.
The sampling omission was identifled by QuaIity Assurance audit; subsequent management review of the audit results identified the reporting omission.
