1.0 PURPOSE AND APPLICABILITY g

j-This instruction describes a visue.1 inspection and checkout of the 125/10 ton auxiliary building crane to assure 1 s safe and reliable operation. It is applicable prior to a unit outage or before making a critical lift such as a loaded spent fuel cask. It fulfills the requirements of the periodic inspection J

as stated in Standard Practice SQM31.

1 2.0 PREREQUISITES r-l 2.1 A maintenance work request (Maintenance Report) shall have been issued to the craft foreman by his supervisor requesting that this MI be performed.

2.2 A Hold Order shall be obtained from the shift engineer if required.

Normal crane checkout will not require a Hold Order. Tagging procedures

-- i are given in Appendix B.

3 2.3 Health physics personnel shall be notified of the proposed inspection and requested to determine if a Special Work Permit is required.

4

~

NOTE: All requirements of the Special Work Permit (if required) shall be met during the course of this instruction.

I 2.h Proposed inspection shall have been coordinated with the operation section.

1.

3.0 PRECAUTIONS p[

L 3.1 Standard crane hand signals shall be used by flagmen at all times.

r-3.2 The crane shall be operated by personnel listed on the Crane Operator Elegibility List (MSL-A37) or trainees unde'r the supervision of such.

personnel. Record operator's name on the attached data sheet.

t

['.~i 3.3 Power should be removed befor'e working on electrical buses, controls, L-.

or rotating equipment.

i r/;

3.4 The crane operator shall be aware of all test personnel on the bridge or i*

trolley during operational checks and shall perform nct crane movements that

"~

might endanger these people.

r--*

1 35 Care shall be taken in the hand operation of the crane limit switches as some of these are located near the h80-V crane collector rails.
