SQNP MI-9 1 Page 1 of 7 Rev. 1 1.0 PURPOSE AND APPLICABILITY The purpose of this instruction is to describe the procedure for checkout of the 175-ton polar crane to assure reliable and safe operation.
It is applicable
~"
g prior to refueling operations. The polar cranes are located on elevation 796 in unit 1 and 2 reactor buildings. No technical specification restraints are applicable. This instruction fulfills the requirements of the periodic insp-ection as stated in standard practice SQM31.
This instruction also specified the procedures to be followed during the major safety inspection of the Reactor Building Polar Crane. This satisfies the g
L requirements of DPM N7hM15 and Standard Practice SQM31.
2.0 PREREQUISITES F.
~
2.1 A maintenance work request (maintenance request) shall have been issued to the craft foreman by his supervisor.
r,-
F 2.2 Proposed inspection shall have been coordinated with the operations section and health physics personnel.
b 2.3 A hold order shall be obtained from the shift engineer for the performance of steps 51 through 510. Tagging procedures are given in appendir. B.
r 2.h If necessary a special work permit shall be obtained per section VI of the TVA Handbook of Health Physics.
((.-
CAUTION: All requirements of the special work permit shall be met ~ "T during the course of this instruction.
~~
I' 2.5 A crane inspector from the Power Plant Maintenance Branch must perform the L
Major Safety Inspection with the aid of a qualified crane operator and the assistance of Plant Craft Personnel, if needed.
2.6 The crane shall be positioned on the ' refueling floor where it is not over any fuel, personnel, or open hatch, if possible. ---
I5 27 Danger areas shall be roped off and proper signs positioned as necessary.
L _.
3.0 PRECAUTIONS W
[.
3.1 Standard crane hand signals shall be used by flagmen at all times, p, '
