Dear Mr. Barton:

JFRogge, RI

SUBJECT:

REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION - SEP TOPIC III-7B, SHIELD WALL TEMPERATURE (TAC NO. M76879)

The staff has reviewed your letter of June 30, 1993, regarding SEP Topic III-78, Shield Wall Temperature. As a result of our review we have determined that additional information is required for us to complete the review. The information required is as follows:

Provide stresses (numerical values) in the concrete and reinforcing bars in the drywell shield wall, above elevation 95 ft. The stresses should be provided under load combinations 3.3.2c and 3.3.2d (p. 39 of Impell Report). Demonstrate that the stresses are below the allowables, considering the existing (cracked) condition of the shield wall. Also, discuss the measures taken (if any) to prevent the migration of moisture thru the cracks to alleviate rebar corrosion.

We request that you provide the information within 30 days of receipt of this letter.

This requirement affects one respondent and, therefore, is not subject to Office of Management and Budget review under P.L.96-511, Sincerely, Original signed by Alexander W.
