e May 11, 1994 Docket No. S0-219 Mr. John J. Barton Vice President and Director GPU Nuclear forporation Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station i

Post Office Box 388 Forked River, New Jersey 08731

Dear Mr. Barton:

SUBJECT:

OYSTER CREEK NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION - EVALUATION OF EFFECTS OF HIGH TEMPERATURE ON DRYWELL SHIELD WALL AND BIOLOGICAL SHIELD WALL, SEP TOPIC Ill-7.B " DESIGN CODES, DESIGN CRITERIA, LOAD COMBINATIONS, AND REACTOR CAVITY CRITERIA" (TAC NO. M76879)

The NRC staff has completed the review of the subject SEP Topic.

Based on the review of the information submitted in various submittals by GPU Nuclear Corporation the staff concludes that the Drywell Shield Wall (DSW) and the Biological Shield Wall (BSW) at the Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station are capable of performing their intended functions.

The staff, however, recommends that GPU Nuclear Corporation monitor the conditions of the DSW and the BSW at periodic intervals to ensure their continued functions.

Based on the completion of this effort we consider SEP Topic III.7-B" Design Codes, Design Criteria, Load Combinations, and Reactor Cavity Criteria" resolved.

We consider our effort on the subject TAC No. M76879 to be complete.

Sincerely, Original signed by:
