June 28, 1993 Docket No. 50-334 Mr. J. D. Sieber, Senior Vice President and Chief Nuclear Officer Nuclear Power Division Duquesne Light Company Post Office Box 4 Shippingport, Pennsylvania 15077-0004
Dear Mr. Sieber:
SUBJECT:
CLARIFICATION OF CONCERNS (TAC NO. M84673)
The purpose of this letter is to clarify our concerns, and to correct an inaccuracy in our letter to you, dated June 24, 1993, regarding your amendment proposal for the Unit 1 spent fuel pool expansion. Duquesne Light Company provided an initial response on February 23, 1992 to our January 25, 1993 request for additional information. However, the response was incomplete, and indicated that changes to the proposed amendment.might be forthcoming.
The NRC staff has not received such changes, and our review has now been delayed 4 months.
Changes to the amendment have the potential to further delay the review. We are concerned that if the delay continues, the staff may not be able to support the desired schedule. Again, we are making every effort to support your requested amendment issuance date of November 1,1993.
The requirements of this letter affect fewer than 10 respondents, and, therefore, are not subject to the Office of Management and Budget review unier PL 96-511.
Sincerely, Original signed b Gordon E. Edison, y: Senior Project Manager Project Directorate I-3 Division of Reactor Projects - 1/II Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation cc:
