SUBJECT:
STATUS OF FEMA'S REASSESSMENT OF 0FFSITE EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS FOR
-TURKEY POINT On October 3-4,1992,.the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) began reassessing essential elements of offsite emergency preparedness for the Turkey Point Nuclear Power Plant to verify reasonable assurance after Hurricane Andrew.
FEMA expects to complete the reassessment in about two weeks.
Mr. Craig S. Wingo, Chief, Radiological Preparedness Division, of FEMA Headquarters is leading the FEMA reassessment team which consists of seven FEMA regional staff and contractors. NRC staff, including ~J. Philip Stohr, Robert Trojanowski, and William Sartor of Region II and Falk Kantor of the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation-(NRR), have been on scene to assist FEMA.
The NRC staff at the Disaster Field Office in Miami has prepared the enclosed daily status reports for management.
They coordinate these reports with FEMA i
and State officials before transmitting facsimiles to NRC Headquarters for distribution and forwarding to the FEMA Headquarters.
