i Question 4.:
l If the computer files did not contain such information in retrievable form, and this was known three weeks ago, why were we (i.e..you, Mike Callahan, Cnris Paine and I) not informed that the lists would shed little or no light on what we were after, thereby eliminating much debate over why we (Ch,ris and I) were not getting the information we sought?
Response 4:
In a Region I letter, dated April 4,1990, requesting information re"ative to Congressional Staff concerns, the licensee was asked to provide the reasonably
'available answers to specific questions by April 20, 1990. When the licensee determined that some of the information requested was available in site com-puter files, the licensee was asked to provide such data with their scheduled response.
After Dr. Myers indicated that the listings provided by the licensee with their letter of April 20, 1990 were not responsive to his request, the licensee con-
~ ducted additional computer searches to determine the completeness and accuracy of available computer data relative to Pullman-Higgins nonconformance reports.
Based upon further discussion with Dr. Myers and a presentation of examples of the type of computer information that is available, additional' computer print-l out data were subsequently provided to Dr. Myers.
Region I agrees that a presentation to Dr. Myers of what was and what was not available from computer files would have been beneficial in eliminating debate and providing information responsive to the Congressional Staff member re-quests. What the licensee believed was responsive to the regional request for info *mation was subsequently determined by Dr. Myers to be of little use for Congressional Staff needs. After learning of this problem, Region I expe-ditiously attempted to work with both the licensee and the NRC E00 office to-provide the available nonconformance report information in a format that would satisfy Dr. Myers' concerns.
