Subject: NRC Region I Inspection 50-443/90-08 (3/5/90 - 4/9/90)
This refers to the above subject safety inspection at the Seabrook Station,
,
Unit 1, Seabrook, New Hampshire. The results of the inspection were discussed
with Mr. D. Moody and other members of your staff on April 10, 1990.
Our overall assessment during this period is that plant operations were con-
ducted safely and that a conservative approach to problem resolution was evi-
dent. A main generator exciter bearing installation error and a valved out
turbine first stage pressure instrument pointed out configuration control prob-
lems during this inspection. After evaluating the details, we concluded that
your corrective actions were appropriate.
Enclosure 1 to this letter is a Notice of Violation for missing a containment
air lock operability surveillance. Although identified by your staff, this
item is being cited because the failure is considered similar to non-cited
violations described in NRC Inspection Report 50-443/99-13.
