Subject: Combined Inspection Nos. 50-317/81-25 and 50-318/81-24
This refers to the routine inspection conducted by Mr. W. L. Kushner of
this office on November 18 - 20, 1981 of activities authorized by NRC
License Nos.DPR-53 and DPR-69 at Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Generating Station,
Units 1 and 2, Lusby, Maryland and to the discussions of our findings held
by Mr. Kushner with Mr. W. J. Lippold of your staff at the conclusion of
the inspection.
Areas examined during this inspection are described in the NRC Region I
Report which is enclosed with this letter. Within these areas, the inspection
consisted of selective examinations of procedures and representative records,
interviews with personnel, and observations by the inspector.
Based on the results of this inspection, it appears that one of your activities
was not conducted in full compliance with NRC requirements, as set forth in
the Notice of Violation, enclosed herewith as Appendix A.
This violation
has been categorized into the levels described in the Federal Register
Notice (45 FR 66754) dated October 7, 1980.
You are required to respond to
this letter; and, in preparing your response, you should follow the instructions
in Appendix A.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790(a), a copy of this letter and the enclosures
will be placed in tne NRC Public Document Room, unless you notify this
office, by telephone, within ten days of the date of this letter and submit
written application to withhold information contained therein within thirty
days of the date of this letter.
Such application must be consistent with
the requirements of 2.790(b)(1).
