6 In your letter dated December 28, 1981, you stated that Duquesne Light Company and Westinghouse believe that there is no need to continue the supplemental fuel surveillance activities for Westinghouse 17x17 fuel assemblies at Beaver Valley.
The NRC staff position is that the limited data base currently available for Westinghouse 17x17 fuel does not warrant suspension of the supplemental surveillance activities at Beaver Valley. Therefore, it is necessary that you continue the examinations committed to in your letter dated April 11,1977 in addition to those addressed in I.E. Circular 80-17.
