Enclosea is an interim 30 cay report in accordance wi 10 CFR 50.SS(e) fer the deficiency regarding Power-Strut spring nuts. This condition was reported by telephone to Mr. H. Kister of your staff on November 25, 1981. A final report will be submitted by March 31, 1982.

NIAGARA M0 HAWK POWER CORPORATION NINE MILE POINT CNIT 2 DOCKET NO. 50-410 INTERIM REPORT FOR REPGRTABLE DEFICIENCY REGARDING POWER-STRUT SPRING NUTS Description of the Deficiency The potential problem involves Power-Strut spring nuts with shallow depth of serration s.
These spring nuts may have lower slip load values in chear a
loading (slip along axis of the channel) than oesigned for.
By a letter dated November 9,1981 Power-Strut notified the Nuclear Regulatory Commission under 10 CFR 21 of a potential problem regaroing Pcwer-Strut spring nuts.
Power-Strut has indicated that the potential problem has been identified to a specific lot cf par t number PS-9227-1/2RS spring nuts.
Power-Strut has requested we return the 2000 PS-9227-1/2RS spring nuts which hao been oelivereo to the linit 2 construction site. The 2,'.03 spring nut s have since been returned to Power-Strut. The problem is still being investigateo and a final report, including the corrective action to be taken and an analy: sis of implications, will be submitted by March 31, 1982.
