WAKE 50VTH REGIONAL AIRPORT - SHEARON HARRIS NUCLEAR POWER PLANT, UNIT 1 (TAC NO. 74338)
At our request, Carolina Power & Light Company (CP&L) submitted the results of i
their aircraft hazards study associated with the proximity of the proposed WakeSouth Regional Airport (WakeSouth) to'the Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant, Unit 1, (Harris) (January 17, 1990 letter from A. Cutter).
By letter i
dated March 6,1990. Mr. Cutter advised the NRC that CP&L believes no

further information requiretients or regulatory actions are pending with the NRC on the WakeSouth issue.
We are currently performing a review of the data and methodology used in the hazards study described in the January 17, 1990 submittal.
When we have concluded our review, we intend to forward our comments to you.
We plan no further regulatory action at this time.
However, we would like to note that the introduction of a new external hazard or the modification of an existing external hazard in the vicinity of any licensed nuclear power plant is of concern to the NRC and may require regulatory action relative to the plant when that hazard is deemed to i
be a significant contributor to risk.
