April 3, 1990 Docket No. 00 219 Mr. E. E. Fit 7 patrick Vice President and Director Oyster Creek Nuclear Generat!ng Station P.O. Box 388 Forked River, New Jersey 08731 Ovar fir. Titzpatrick:

SUBJECT:

EVALL'ATION OF OYSTER CREEK SEP TOPlc 1111 IPSAR SECTION 4.2 CLAS$1FICAT10N OF STRUCTURES, COMPONENTS AND SYSTEMS (TAC NO 75063)

Reference 1: letter GPU Nuclear Corporation to NRC, Response to NRC concerns pertaining to SEP Topic !!1 1, IPSAR Section 4.2. Classification of Structures, Components and Systems, No. 5000-89 1819, September 29, 1990 The NRC staff raised questions several years ago concerning SEP Topic 1111, IPSAR Section 4.2 when the intergrated assessment was conducted on several SEP plants. The questions were related to design, fabrication erection, and testing of component structures and the licensees were asked to compare Codes used at that time to the Codes of current versions to determine whether the changes in Code requirements would cause any margin reductions and safety I

concerns.

You respond (d to this request in a submittal addressing SEP Topic

!!!.1, IPSAR Section 4.P (Reference 1).

Although evolution of Code requirements has altered design margins in certain areas and such variations in margin were not precisely quantifiedt our review of the submittai did not identify any specific safety concerns.

Therefore, the staff review concludes that information provided is adequate and acceptable.

This resolves SEP Topic 111 1 IPSAR Section 4.2.

Sincerely,

/s/
