GN-142 Gentlemen:

The Georgia Power Company wishes to submit the following information concerning the violations discussed in your inspection reports 50-424/

81-07 and 50-425/81-07.

We concur with the finding identified concerning maintenance / storage inspections. We agree that there is no documented evidence of this inspec-tion for the Unit 2 reactor vessel (tag #2 1201V6-001) for September, 1980.

The inspection frequency was changed to bi-monthly for the Unit 2 boric acid transfer pump (tag #2120PP6-006) in February,1979, therefore deleting the requirement for this inspection in March, 1979. The inspection was performed in April, meeting the new inspection requirement.

We feel that the system presently in use for notification and documen-tation of maintenance / storage inspections is too complicated and does not have sufficient checks. We are in the process of revising our equipment maintenance / storage program to help eliminate future problems. The new program will be a less complicated manual system.

We feel that the missing inspection documentation identified is iso-lated and does not indicate a program breakdown. The month's inspection (October,1980 for Unit 2 Reactor Vessel) following the month in question did not identify any problem areas with the equipment.

l We expect to have our new prooram operational by October 1, 1981.

We concur with the f uiding identified concerning food and drink con-sumption in the warehouse storage area. The reason for the finding was lack of training and improper posting.

l

" Designated eating areas" signs have been posted throughout the ware-house. Warehouse supervisory personnel will continue to monitor craftsmen's activities.

Contractors have been notified that all warehouse regulations 8109010209 810820 PDR ADOCK 05000424 G

Craftsmen have been shown the designated eating areas and have been informed that they must comply with all Warehouse regulations.

' Gang Box" Safety Meetings will be used to continue to educate all craftsmen who are required to work in the warehouse regarding regulations concerning eating on or near plant equipment.

Full compliance was achieved on June 29, 1981.
