W, Olsen, and Mrs. C. S rpenter of this office on June 12 to July 23, 1990, at

the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station, Plymouth, Massachusetts.
Areas examined
during this intpection 4re dea'ribed in the NRC Region I Inspection Report which
is enclosed with this letter.
Your response to the recirculation pump motor generator set trip and subsequent
Notification of Unusual Event ('OVE) displayed sound command of emergency plan
requirements as well as effective internal and exterr.a1 communications.
Communications with local town emergency preparedness personnel prior the NOUE
were a positive action and effectively reduced the potential for confusion upon
formal declaration of the Unusual Event.
