Dear Mr. O'Reilly:
On October 14, 1982, Mr. N. J. Chiangi notified the NRC, Mr. C. Hehl, of a potentially reportable item per the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e).
Mr. Hehl was informed that Main Control Board had welding deficiencies. It was reported that this item was not reportable per the provisions of 10CFR, Part 21; however, after further evaluation, we think this item should be considered potentially reportable per the requirements of 10CFR, Part 21.
The vendor, Westinghouse, on this item is going to perform a seismic qualification analysis using revised weld acceptance criteria to which the control board was constructed. The board will then be reinspected to the revised criteria with any deficient welds being evaluated by Westinghouse. At this time a reportability evaluation can then be made. We do not expect this work to be complete until March of 1983. For this reason, we would request an extension until April 1, 1983 to provide a reportability evaluation.
