REPORT NOS. 50-438/83-10 AND 50-439/83-10

This refers to your letter of July 7,1983, responding to the Notice of

Deviation concerning the Bellefonte facility transmitted to you by our letter

dated May 23, 1983, and to the subsequent telephone discussions between

L. A. Johnson of your staff and T. E. Conlon of this office on July 22, 1983.

It is our understanding that you will provide a supplemental response to this

office by August 12, 1983, to address the following items:

1.

Deviation 50-438,439/83-10-01

a.

Fire Pumps

(1) Circuit drawings are to be provided showing means of starting

fire pumps and identification of any code deviations from

NFPA-20, Centrifugal Fire Pumps.

(2) Fire pump relief valves are to be provided with flow indications.

b.

Automatic Sprinkler Systems

A formal code interpretation has been requested from NFPA. TVA is to make

a supplemental response following receipt of'these findings. This response

will be in late 1983.

2.

Deviation 50-438,439/83-10-03

TVA's response is to be revised to include the required corrective actions

necessary to verify that the underground fire protection piping that was

not installed under a quality assurance program is in conformance to the

design requirements.
