Regulatory Guide-(R.G.)- 1.97 and-10 CFR 50.49 require that neutron flux be a
monitored by Category 1 instrumentation. The staff has allowed BWRs to operate with' existing instrumentation until instrumentation was developed that conforms to the requirements of R.G. 1.97 and 10'CFR 50.49.-- Instrumentation that meets the requirements of R.G. l.97'and 10 CFR'50.49 is now available.
The Boiling Water Reactor Owners Group (BWROG) submitted the above Reference for. review. : The staff has. completed its-evaluation of' the topical report. ' As a result of our evaluation the staff finds the BWROG position unacceptable.
Enclosed.is a letter to the BWROG and our Safety Evaluation.regarding this matter.-
tTherefore, you are required to install neutron flux monitoring' instrumentation
