- Decessary to- relieve external stresses incurred in.

. cold-working the spring wire The lack of shot-pe=ning could. Isad. ca fatigue failure, which. then would affect angin- avaiIahilitv Telephone conversations with. i'r=n--r4< = DeLaval. ard a visual inspection confirmed that the defective valve springs.had.been installed in the two engines shipped to the Shearon Harris plant site ,.

The improper shot-peenintr of the valve spring could lead to failure of the spring. If the valve spring i fails, engine availability could be affected.

REASON DEFICIENCY IS REPORTABLE: If left uncorrected, failure o: che valve. spring could result in loss of the emergency on-site AC power supply.

CORRECTIVE ACTION: The A4===1 an=4n=a have been placed on " hold" at the Shearon Harris site The valve springs will be replaced when the enginer are installed' on their foundations.

Valve spring change-out requirea the ability to bar the engina over whica canact be-accomplished' until the engine is sitting on its foundation with the flywheel installed.

The an=4n== are currently in storage and are expected to.  ?

be set on. their fannd=e4ana in June 1382 i, Transamerica DeLaval har removed all defectiva springs fromr. stock. and. has enkan extra receiving-inspection
